A City financier arrested after a woman was pushed in front of a bus by a jogger claims he has been ‘wrongly implicated’.

Eric Bellquist was arrested on Thursday by detectives hunting a man who shoved the woman in front of a double decker on Putney Bridge in west London on Friday May 5.

He was later released under investigation, pending further inquiries. But he claimed today he has ‘irrefutable proof’ that he was in the United States at the time.

Police released CCTV earlier this week of a female pedestrian being pushed in front of the 430 bus by a male jogger.

Scotland Yard said they arrested a 41-year-old man on Thursday at a residential address in Chelsea, west London, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Lawyers for Mr Bellquist confirmed he was arrested in relation to the assault.

A statement issued by solicitors Duncan Lewis today said: ‘This statement is issued in relation to our client Mr Eric Bellquist, who was arrested yesterday in relation to an assault that took place between a male jogger and a female pedestrian on the 5th May 2017 on Putney Bridge, London.

‘Our client has been wrongly implicated in this matter; he categorically denies being the individual concerned and has irrefutable proof that he was in the United States at the time of the incident.

‘Consequently we expect a swift resolution to this wholly untrue allegation.’

Mr Bellquist works for the hedge fund Hutton Collins, based in Pall Mall, central London.

He is a graduate of the University of Colorado in the US, and previously worked for Lehman Brothers.

On the firm’s website, it states: ‘Eric Bellquist joined Hutton Collins in 2002. Over the course of various transactions he has represented Hutton Collins in the leisure, media/telecom and manufacturing sectors.

‘He currently represents Hutton Collins on the boards of Byron Hamburgers and Wagamama and was responsible for the firm’s investment in Caffè Nero.

‘Prior to Hutton Collins, Eric worked in the European Leveraged Finance and Sponsor Coverage group at Lehman Brothers.

‘Eric is a graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder.’
